Rising ninth graders from Florence school districts 1, 2, 3, and 4 gathered for 4 days and 3 nights on the campus of Francis Marion University, to learn more about getting ready for college and careers. Held from July 23 to July 26, the 4th annual Activate Academy was the largest class yet, with 49 students in attendance. Activate Academy seeks to inspire, educate, and “activate” the minds of these soon-to-be high schoolers, to get them thinking about college choices and career possibilities, with a variety of presentations and discussions on math, engineering, science, and the arts. The students spent one day traveling to Columbia, SC, for a tour of Nephron Pharmaceuticals, and were treated to a Red Wolves baseball game later in the week.
